Abstract
Zakon u Hrvatskoj propisuje obavezno cijepljenje djece protiv deset različitih bolesti. Zakoni koji propisuju cijepljenje razlikuju se od zemlje do zemlje. Čak ni sve američke savezne države nemaju iste zakone što se tiče cijepljenja. Svako cjepivo ima barem nekoliko nuspojava. Dio stručnjaka povezuje i određene bolesti uz određena cjepiva. Međutim, mnogi se slažu da posljedice necijepljena, odnosno širenja, pojedinih, iskorijenjenih bolesti izaziva veću štetu od samih štetnih nuspojava cjepiva. Nekolicina roditelja i dalje odbija cijepiti svoju djecu. Necijepljena populacija može ugroziti onu cijepljenu, ukoliko procijepljenost padne ispod određenog postotka. Mediji imaju veliku ulogu u stvaranju pozitivnih ili negativnih stavova roditelja u svezi sa cijepljenjem. Mediji često preuveličavaju te ponekad prenose netočne ili neprovjerene činjenice. Oni također, češće prenose negativne vijesti od onih pozitivnih, ali na taj način ne možemo znati ni koliko je života možda spašeno upravo cijepljenjem.
Abstract (english)
The Croatian law prescribes obligatory vaccination against ten different diseases. Laws which prescribe vaccination differ from one country to another. Not even all American confederate states have the same laws when it comes to vaccination. Each vaccine has at least a few side effects. Some experts bind certain diseases with certain vaccines. However, many agree that the consequences of avoiding vaccination, apropos spreading, against some eradicated diseases cause greater damage than the sole damaging side effects of vaccination. Several parents still refuse to vaccinate their children. The un-vaccinated part of the population could put the vaccinated part in danger, unless the vaccine coverage drops under a certain percentage. The media have a big role in the creation of positive and negative attitudes of parents on the matter of vaccination. The media often exaggerates and sometimes propagates incorrect or unverified facts. Also, it often propagates more negative news than the good ones, but that way we cannot be certain about the amount of lives that have been saved by vaccination itself.
