| Abstract (english) | It is a report about the practice of a group of public health specialists during the War in Croatia (1991- ). It presents to the world the body of their knowledge and the experience that they gained, in maintaining essential public health services, civil protection and health services; in documenting public and environmental health problems; and in forming and developing public health alliances, which enhanced the quality of life even in times of extreme hardship, which gave people belief in human rights, in the sense of their community and in the possibilities that they could jointly achieve where they would individually fail, and which gave people the will to go on. Secondly, it makes up the first national health profile compiled by a country in the World Health Organisation European Healthy Cities Network. It is even more remarkable for the context in which it has come to be written and for the fact that it has been written by one of the newest countries in the European network, and indeed, one of the newest countries in the world. |
