Abstract
Bioluminiscencija je sposobnost organizma da emitira svjetlost oksidacijom luciferina uz pomoć lucife raze i u prisutnosti kisika ili vodikova peroksida. Ovisno o uvjetima u kojima organizmi žive, bioluminis cencija ima različite uloge i pojavljuju se različiti mehanizmi i kemijske građe molekula ključnih za provođenje emisije svjetlosti (luciferini i luciferaze). Bioluminiscencija pronalazi široku primjenu u medicini, biotehnologiji, biokemiji, razvoju lijekova i terapija, genetičkom inženjerstvu i u tehnologiji senzora i rasvjete. Cilj ovog rada je proučiti kemijske reakcije emisije svjetlosti, istražiti kako je bioluminiscencija omogućila preživljavanje određenih organizama u tako ekstremnim i mračnim uvjetima i na koji način su znanstvenici iskoristili ovu pojavu za napredak već postojećih metoda ili razvijanje novih. Morski organizmi emitiraju različite boje od kojih se najčešće, pogotovo na većim dubinama, može uočiti plava i plavo-zelena svjetlost zbog male valne duljina koja dopire najdublje.
Abstract (english)
Bioluminescence is the ability of an organism to emit light through the oxidation of luciferin with the help of luciferase and in the presence of oxygen or hydrogen peroxide. Depending on the conditions in which organisms live, bioluminescence serves different roles, and various mechanisms and chemical structures of the molecules crucial for light emission (luciferins and luciferases) exist. Bioluminescence finds wide application in medicine, biotechnology, biochemistry, drug development and therapy, genetic engineering, and sensor and lighting technology. This paper aims to study the chemical reactions involved in light emission, explore how bioluminescence has enabled certain organisms to survive in such extreme and dark conditions, and how scientists have utilized this phenomenon to advance existing methods or develop new ones. Marine organisms emit different colors, most commonly blue and blue-green light, especially at greater depths due to the small wavelength that reaches the deepest.
