The progress of computer hardware and the development of algorithms is part of the development of artificial intelligence, which has found its application in various spheres of human life. Artificial intelligence systems are characterized by simulating human intelligence using computer systems. Today, it has become notorious that the field of application of artificial intelligence is increasing, thanks to its benefits, but we must also be aware of the potential threats that it necessarily entails. The rapid development of artificial intelligence represents a significant challenge in human rights protection, which resulted in the need to create a clear normative framework that will regulate its application. In this regard, several documents were adopted, both at the international and regional levels of the European Union, which its members integrated into their national legislation. Recently, the first law on Artificial Intelligence at the European Union level was adopted, which placed human on a pedestal and strived to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms in an atmosphere of rapid technological development. The potential threat to human rights through the application of artificial intelligence systems is particularly articulated in criminal justice. Therefore, the EU has opted for a sensitive and cautious approach to applying artificial intelligence. In this regard, ethical guidelines were issued for the reliable application of artificial intelligence. Although it is clear that the application of artificial intelligence systems in criminal justice has become a modern given, its application is always under human supervision and control to verify the actions taken and correct any errors. Finally, artificial intelligence systems have also found their application in forensics, especially in the actions of forensic experts, whose tasks are greatly facilitated. Forensics involves the application of scientific principles and techniques to crime investigation and trace processing, which sometimes requires examining large amounts of complex data. It is precisely in the latter segment that artificial intelligence can make a significant contribution to forensic research.
