The topic of this thesis is the European Parliament and the attitudes of citizens towards its functioning. The thesis discusses the development of the European Union and the European Parliament as its most important institution. All member states are actively involved in the work of the European Parliament. It is a body that can be composed of over 750 MPs and presidents, however the final number of MPs depends on the Council of Europe. All mandates of MPs are free, meaning they operate independently from the instructions of national governments, European parties as well as fractions themselves. Primary and secondary research was incorporated in the thesis. A deep interview and a questionnaire was used as the research method. The survey questionnaire contained closedtype questions. Secondary research was constructed based upon books, scientific articles, and Internet resources which served as theoretical basis for the thesis. The research concludes that the work of the European Parliament is extremely important and therefore every one of its decisions has a great impact on the entire European Union. The decisions made are complex and consequently require a large amount of preparation and research. Nevertheless, their work receives less media coverage than it ought to.
