Sugar beet is one of the most important crops in the world. Each year 277 million tons of sugar beet are produced worldwide. Croatia produces 1 295 459 tons of sugar beet per year, occupying 19 533 hectares of land and has an average income of 66.3 tons per hectare. Sugar beet is also called ''the queen of farming cultures'' due to her need of attention, extreme care and knowledge. During its vegetation time, sugar beet is attacked by many pests and one of the most important is sugar beet weevil. The main purpose of this research was to explore the effect of insecticides focusing on actives substances spinosad, chlorantraniliprole and azadirachtin applied during seed and leaf treatment on sugar beet weevil and to compare it with the effect of standard insecticide thiamethoxam applied on seed treatment and the effect of combined insecticides based on chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin applied on leaf treatment. For this research,520 sugar beet weevilswere collected; 12 groups of 40 sugar beet weevils (10 for each repetition) and 40 sugar beet weevils for the untreated control. Sugar beet weevils were collected on the fields of sugar beet in Tovarnik. Both experiments explored the effectiveness of insecticides in sugar beet weevil suppression and leaf preservation. The experiment in which untreated seeds were used showed that neither of insecticides used was effective. The experiment in which leaf treatment was conducted showed only the effectiveness of standard insecticide based on chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin. Explored active substances are good candidates for replacement, but it is necessary to conduct more researches in order to introduce them as successful substances in pest control and to bring them in everyday use. Researches of this kind have a task of finding the most advantageous way of pest suppression in order to ease the pressure put on the environment, but standard compositions and chemical usage will remain the main mode of sugar beet weevil suppression in close future.
