Green area in the cities is of great importance for biodiversity; the selection of plant species and their maintenance is in line with climate and relief of a particular area and with the needs, time and financial possibilities of garden owners. Although landscaping has a significant impact on the city's image, there are no regulations to specifically define their appearance. Kriška street on Volovčica, part of the town district Pešćenica-Žitnjak, is characterized by old workers houses in a row with small gardens. The goals of this paper are to determine the size and function of selected gardens, to do the inventory of horticultural flora, determinate taxonomic affiliation, life forms, duration of life, origin and inevitability, to evaluate the assessment of selected gardens and to propose measures of preservation old city precincts and increase their biodiversity. The geo-portal (http://geoportal.dgu.hr/) was used to measure the surface area of chosen gardens in Kriška street, and based on the literature the environmental conditions of the area were described (climate, soil, relief, natural plant cover). The research and the inventory was carried out in the period from March to the end of May and the function of the foresight (representative, resident, or parking) was also determined. During the research, the landscaping was evaluated by photographing. A total of 45 different plant species were isolated, and the most common species is Rosa abietina Gren. Ex. H. Christ of the Rosaceae family, which is found in 10 of the 14 investigated forensics (counted 31 plants), then Tulipa agensis DC. from the Lilliaceae family whose presence was found in 6 of the 14 investigated gardens (counted 37 plants) and Primula acaulis L. from the Primulaceae family, which is found in 5 of the 14 investigated gardens (30 plants). The main role of the investigated front gardens is representative and in most cases they are well managet.
