Pest control in agriculture has always been a complex problem. Numerous methods for pest control have been developed, which are classified under agrotechnical, mechanical, physical, biological nad chemical measures. Of all the protection measures, the use of chemical measures prevails, actually insecticides are used the most in pest control. Many insecticides have lost their permits, and those that may still be used often cause the development of resistance in pests and a decline in the adequate effectiveness of insecticides, and it is necessary to research and introduce new alternative methods, which are environmentally friendly, in plant protection. One of the physical measures to control pests is the use of high-voltage electric fields. The aim of this study was to thoroughly review and explain the effect of high voltage electric field on insects and to show the possibility of repellent action of this method, as well as the possibility of catching insects by force created by high voltage electric field when the insect is in high voltage space. The results of the reviewed research record the high efficiency of this method in plant protection. The method was tested on 82 different species of insects and 5 species of spiders, and on all species, regardless of voltage, it was 100 % effective. High-voltage electric fields are very effective and will certainly be one of the alternative methods of pest control in the future, when the aim is to use less and less pesticides and to increase the use of non-chemical protective measures.
