Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L) contains several compounds that are useful in human health. Increasing concentrations of key healing compounds have become the goal of breeding programs. Biopolymeric microcapsules are one of the ways that we can improve morphologic characteristics (height, diameter, biomass, market weight rosette) and nutritive characteristics (dry matter content, total chlorophyll, total polyphenols and flavonoids, and antioxidant activity) of lettuce. In this research, we have set up one factorial experiment with the salad of Melina variety, which we include in Batavia. When planting seedlings, eight types of biopolymer microcapsules made of alginate carrier with or without chitosan wrap were incorporated into the soil with active ingredients Ca2+, Cu2+, Ca2+/T. viride, Cu2+/T. viride. The physiological solution of T. viride spore was also applied while control was without applications of the microparticle. There was no significant difference in the morphological properties of the lettuce using the microparticles. The application of a biopolymer microsphere with the Ca2+ activator resulted in a significant increase in total chlorophyll (1349,7 μg⋅g-1). Application of microcapsules loaded with Ca2+ and T. viride resulted in a significant increase in total polyphenols (4,2 mg EGK⋅g-1) and flavonoids (9,7 mg EK⋅g-1) antioxidant activity (22,1 μmol ET g-1 s.tv.) in comparison to the control variant.
