Abstract
Cilj rada je opisati biologiju i ekologiju ektoparazita roda Pennella, razreda veslonošaca (Copepoda) te odrediti morfološke značajke jedinke Pennella sp. Uzorkovana jedinka je parazitirala na iglunu (Xiphias gladius) koji je ulovljen sportskim ribolovom (big game fishing) na pučinskom dijelu Dugog otoka. Jedinka Pennella sp se sastojala od vrata, trupa i abdomena koji su bili odvojeni od cefalotoraksa i drugog (kraćeg) dijela vrata te prihvaćeni za meso domadara. Jedinka je u mišićnom tkivu ribe formirala cistu kao karakterističnu posljedicu infestacije ovim ektoparazitom. Rezultati morfometrijske analize ukazuju na nedoraslost jedinke roda Pennella. Iako su analizom potvrđene neke sličnosti s vrstom Pennella instructa izostanak lateralnih rogova i niti s jajašcima nemoguća je daljnja jednoznačna taksonomska determinacija vrste.
Abstract (english)
The aim of this work is to describe the biology and ecology of ectoparasites of the genus Pennella, class Copepoda, and to determine the morphological characteristics of the sampled individual Pennella sp. The sampled individual parasitized on a swordfish (Xiphias gladius) caught by sport fishing (big game fishing) in the nearshore part of Dugi otok island. The individual of Pennella sp. consisted of neck, trunk and abdomen separated from the cephalothorax, and the second (shorter) part of the neck that was connected to the muscle tissue of the host. The individual formed a cyst in the muscle tissue of the fish as a characteristic result of infestation with this ectoparasite. The results of the morphometric analysis indicate the immaturity of the individual. Although the analysis confirmed some similarities with the species Pennella instructa, the absence of lateral horns and filaments with eggs makes further definite taxonomic identification of the species impossible.
