Abstract
Očuvanje bioraznolikosti ima ključnu ulogu u održavanju ekosustava, te je Organizacija za ekonomsku suradnju i razvoj (eng. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD) postavila cilj poticanja donositelja politika da razviju strategije koje će istovremeno osigurati napredak u poljoprivredi i zaštititi bioraznolikost. Za postizanje ovog cilja, važno je definirati odgovarajuće pokazatelje biološke raznolikosti koji će omogućiti kvantitativno mjerenje same raznolikosti te upotrebu tih informacija u donošenju političkih odluka. Konvencija o biološkoj raznolikosti (eng. Convention on Biological Diversity, CBD), usvojena na Konferenciji Ujedinjenih naroda (UN) o okolišu i razvoju u Rio de Janeiru 1992., postavlja međunarodne principe za očuvanje bioraznolikosti i zajedničku odgovornost čovječanstva u zaštiti prirode. BirdLife International, globalno partnerstvo koje se bavi očuvanjem ptica, njihovih staništa i bioraznolikosti, igra važnu ulogu. BirdLife International pristupa očuvanju bioraznolikosti kroz istraživanje i praćenje statusa ptica i njihovih staništa. To im omogućuje utvrđivanje potreba za očuvanjem ptica i postavljanje prioriteta.
Abstract (english)
Biodiversity conservation plays a crucial role in maintaining ecosystems, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has set a goal to encourage policymakers to develop strategies that will simultaneously promote progress in agriculture and protect biodiversity. To achieve this goal, it is important to define appropriate indicators of biological diversity that will enable quantitative measurement of diversity itself and the use of this information in policy-making. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), adopted at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, establishes international principles for biodiversity conservation and the shared responsibility of humanity in protecting nature. BirdLife International, a global partnership dedicated to bird conservation, their habitats, and biodiversity, plays a significant role. BirdLife International approaches biodiversity conservation through research and monitoring of bird status and their habitats. This allows them to identify the conservation needs of birds and set priorities.
