Abstract Predškolski i školski vrtovi imaju vrlo značajnu ulogu u životu djece, te u razvijanju njihove
samosvijesti u najranijoj životnoj dobi, stvaranju radnih i prehrambenih navika te ekološke svijesti.
Preobrazba dotadašnjega izrazito ruralnoga prekosavskog prostora jugozapadno od Zagreba u jednu
od današnjih gradskih četvrti započinje tek prije pola stoljeća. Prije toga ovdje stoljećima žive
stanovnici desetak sela.
danas odaje ruralni karakter.
području gradske četvrti Novi Zagreb, odrediti veličinu i funkciju, inventarizirati hortikulturnu floru,
odrediti taksonomsku pripadnost, životne oblike, trajanje života, porijeklo i invazivnost, ocijeniti
uređenost vrtova i predložiti biljne svojte, te načine primjene i aktivnosti za poboljšanje edukacije
djece u osnovama vrtlarenja u odgojno-obrazovnim ustanovama.
Istraživanjem 9 odabranih vrtova, podijeljenih u 2 skupine: TIP 1 - predškolski vrt i TIP 2 - školski vrt,
Abstract (english) The transformation of the previous rural area across-the-Sava, southwest of Zagreb, into one of today's
city districts began only half a century ago. Before that period, the inhabitants of about 10 villages
were living there.
A part of the city district has been planned and built in compliance with the urban planning style,
while the other part of the style reveals its rural character. In the whole area of Novi Zagreb (East and
West), there are 10 urban kindergartens and 17 elementary schools. Some of these institutions have a
garden which is included in the educational program with the aim to develop positive psychophysical
characteristics in children. It also helps to gain the new knowledge and skills acquisition in the healthy
environment.
The objectives of this thesis are to ascertain the existence of the gardens with preschool and
elementary school establishments in city district Novi Zagreb. Preschool and school gardens have an
important role in the children's life, in the development of their self-awareness at early age, in
developing work and healthy eating habits as well as in the environmental awareness developmentThe
aim is also to determine garden's size and function, to make an inventory of horticultural flora, to
determine the taxonomic affiliation, life forms, lifetime, the origin and invasiveness, to evaluate the
arrangement of the gardens and to propose the plant species. Furthermore, the objective is also to
improve the ways of application and the activities for the children education improvement in the basics
of gardening at educational institutions. Based on research of 9 selected gardens devided into 2 groups:
TYPE 1- preschool garden and TYPE 2-school garden, in the period between May and June 2016, the
average area of TYPE 1 garden of 5 940 m² and of TYPE 2 garden of 18 967 m² have been
determined. Based on flora monytoring, it has been noted a similar number of plant species in both
garden types. The decorative plants with the greatest number of perennials and geophytes have
prevailed. It can be concluded that the gardens at educational institutions in the city district Novi
Zagreb- Istok area don't have rural character: they show the new trend in the garden design as well as
in the plant species selection, and have modern form because of the urbanization impact, while the
gardens in the city district Novi Zagreb- Zapad kept the part of traditionalism and have vegetable
gardens.
