Garden rocket is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant from the family Brassicas (Brassicaceae) that has minimal requirements in terms of environment. It is a fast growing plant with a short term period of growing cycle, and it originates from Mediterranean. It is possible to do the intensive vegetable growing in protected areas during all seasons, and using biological substrates enable better control of quantity and quality of the nutrients in nutrient solutions. The aim of this master’s thesis is to determine mineral content of garden rocket, and how is it affected by hydroponics growing. The research was conducted on the experiment station owned by Department of vegetable growing, Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb, from the beginning of April until the end of May, during the spring of 2016. For the research purposes, garden rocket was cultivated in two types of closed hydroponics growing systems – Floating hydroponic garden and Hydroponics ebb and flow low tide garden. Both systems were situated in non-heated protected areas. The units grown there were compared to the units that were simultaneously cultivated by conventional methods – in plain external garden. This research has statistically proven the benefits of hydroponics growing on the amount of macro and microelements (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese and copper), amount of dry matter and the number of output units. Based on the outcome results it is determined that the growing of garden rocket in floating hydroponic garden achieves the large number of output units, and that growing of garden rocket in hydroponics ebb and flow low tide garden results in greatest amount of dry matter.
