Abstract
Popularna kultura mjesto je otpora i borbe te prostor proizvodnje znaĉenja, a dio pop-kulture koji je u fokusu ovoga rada jest popularna televizija. Središnja je tema rada prikaz ţenskih likova na televiziji, s posebnim naglaskom na TV-seriju Buffy – ubojica vampira. Feminizam je od sredine prošloga stoljeća znaĉajno utjecao na prikaz ţenskih likova u televizijskom mediju, a krajem prošloga stoljeća doţivio je zaokret pojavom tzv. popularnog feminizma i postfeminizma koji je producirao nove ţenske likove poput Buffy Summers iz spomenute serije. Kompleksnost toga televizijskog teksta privukla je paţnju akademskog svijeta, a jedan od znaĉajnih aspekata koji se istraţivao jest i feminizam koji je promovirala serija. Feministiĉki predznak serijala preispitan je iz razliĉitih perspektiva te je rezultirao mnogim pa i kontradiktornim zakljuĉcima, a ovim će se radom, propitivanjem kategorije ţene-ratnice, analizom simbolike zlikovaca u seriji te analizom ljubavnih odnosa glavne protagonistice, pokušati ustvrditi je li Buffy uistinu feministiĉka heroina ili popularnofeministiĉki proizvod svoga vremena.
Abstract (english)
Popular culture is a site of resistance and battle and the field where meaning is created, and the aspect of pop-culture serving as the focus of this paper is popular television. The central theme of the paper is the depiction of female characters on television with emphasis on the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Since the middle of the last century, feminism has significantly affected on the depiction of female characters in the television medium, and has reached a turning point at the end of the last century with the rise of popular feminism and postfeminism which have created new female characters such as Buffy Summers from the already mentioned show. The complexity of that television text attracted the attention of the academic world, and one of is many discussed aspects is the feminism promoted by the very show. The feminist undertone of the show has been studied from myriad of perspective resulting in many contradictory conclusions, and this paper will, by surveying the category of the woman warrior, analyising the symbolism of the show's villains and the romantic relationships of the lead hero, attempt to figure out whether Buffy is truly a feminist heroine or a popularfeminist product of its time.
