Abstract
Zagađenje mikroplastikom predstavlja veliko opterećenje za vodene sustave. Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio pratiti izloženost prirodne zajednice zooplanktona (kolnjaci, rašljoticalci, veslonošci) okolišnim koncentracijama mikroplastike različitih veličinskih kategorija tijekom 96 sati. Ingestija najmanje veličinske kategorije mikroplastike (1– 5 μm) potvrđena je kod sve tri istraživane skupine. Ingestija srednje kategorije mikroplastike (27 – 32 μm) je utvrđena samo kod rašljoticalaca dok ingestija najveće veličinske kategorije (45 – 53 μm) nije potvrđena. Osim ingestije, zabilježena je i različita stopa smrtnosti pojedinih skupina zooplanktona što ukazuje na značaj mikroplastike kao antropogenog polutanta u slatkovodnim ekosustavima.
Abstract (english)
Microplastic pollution is a major stress on aquatic systems. The objective of this study was to monitor the exposure of a natural community of zooplankton (rotifera, cladocera, copepoda) to environmental concentrations of microplastics of different size categories over 96 hours. Uptake of the smallest size category of microplastics (1-5 μm) was confirmed in all three groups studied. Ingestion of the medium category of microplastics (27-32 μm) was detected only in the cladocerans, while ingestion of the largest size category (45-53 μm) was not confirmed. In addition to the uptake, different mortality rates of individual zooplankton groups were also detected, indicating the importance of microplastics as an anthropogenic pollutant in freshwater ecosystems.
