This thesis aims to expound the manner in which the internationalization of small and medium enterprises manifests itself. Initially it will explain the terminology and meaning behind international business, which will form the theoretical foundation of this work. The next chapter will describe what the internationalization of the economy means in general for the national economy, while also showing the traces that it leaves on small and medium enterprises. The subsequent chapter titled Thesis Methodology will describe the scientific methods that were utilized and the specific manner in which they were used in the work. After that, the models of internationalization will be described and their implementation. In this chapter the models will be described in detail, while showing their individual strengths and weaknesses. The next chapter will show the barriers and complications that firms must deal with and describe them in detail. After that, the methods that are used to select foreign markets will be shown, an element vital to the internationalization of a firm. It will outline the motives that underpin the entry into foreign markets by small and medium enterprises, an aspect that greatly affects the manner in which this is undertaken. After describing their motives, it will show the manner in which these firms may gain access to these foreign markets. Lastly, it will describe the conclusions that were reached upon the completion of this thesis.
