Consumer protection is a specifically legal area relating to consumer protection who are defined as natural persons participating in market activities that are not related to professional activities. Consumer protection and rights are regulated by a special law which, in combination with legal directives from other laws, has the task of protecting consumer rights in the market. Unfair business practices and aggressive business practices are common cases of consumer rights violations. Knowledge of one's own rights as a consumer participate in the market should be equal to being informed about the characteristics of the product or service consumer is purchasing, and there is increasing emphasis on consumer education today. Consumer rights law harmonized with European Union directive, National Consumer Protection Program adopted by the Croatian Parliament and consumer associations are in charge of protection and consumer rights in Republic of Croatia. Consumer associations are non-profit and non-governmental legal entities founded by citizens whose task, through various activities, is to protect the position and interests of consumers in case of violation of rights, and these activities include seminars, lectures, leaflets, individual consultations and more. Consumer protection and rights were chosen as the topic of this paper because every individual should be informed about their consumer rights. The main goals of this paper are to present basic consumer rights, legal provisions on consumer protection and a description of consumer protection in the Republic of Croatia. The purpose of this paper is to further educate every reader on their consumer rights.
