Military organization is a hierarchical system in which the commander’s role has a significant impact on the actions of the team as a whole. The system operates on the principles of a single leadership and subordination. The most important task of the army in peace time is to develop its strategic leaders and this is at the same time both a long and a challenging process in which the organization prepares its officers from the very beginning of their careers. The fulfillment of obligations and the achievement of standardized goals is monitored through career management, and officers are getting prepared for the following position while they are active in their current one. Through planned and thoughtful guidance, officers go through different command and leadership duties at the levels of tactics and operations, while they are concurrently referred to the appropriate military training in their own country and abroad. The best candidates are selected at the strategic level, and the prerequisites for entering the top selection are extremely demanding and strict. The combination of civilian and military training, the experience gained by performing duties at previous levels and the experience acquired by working in an international environment (for example NATO bodies or missions) contribute to forming a leader and provide him with the development necessary for taking up a strategic position. This paper will explain the concept and the importance of a leader as well as the process of forming an officer who can take up the highest military duty. This paper will clarify the organization of the entire system, which directs an individual leader to meet the standards aimed at achieving the uniformity of officers within the countries with modern armed forces.
