The European Union implements the convergence criteria, or the so-called Maastricht criteria of 1992, whose basic mission is to reduce economic disparities among the members of the European Union and to join the Economic and Monetary Union through the introduction of the euro. Convergence aims to strengthen economic growth and link employment in the less developed countries of the European Union. To this end, limits have been set that the state must comply with in order to successfully converge with the developed countries. They are measured in terms of price and exchange rate stability, government finances and long-term interest rates. The aim of this paper is to gain knowledge about the success of the convergence of the Republic of Croatia with the countries of the European Union. In order to understand the process and purpose of convergence, the thesis will present the theoretical part of convergence, which deals with the types of convergence, its meaning and integration, as well as the impact of global crises on the degree of convergence of Croatia and the European Union. In order to identify Croatia's position and propose appropriate solutions, the criteria will be analyzed based on the above economic indicators and compared with the average of the European Union and the average of the Eurozone countries. In addition, macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, employment and poverty rate are analyzed to make the analysis more complete. The analysis is based on the period of the last five years, i.e. from 2017-2021. year, which includes the period of the pandemic crisis from COVID -19 and the related changes for the whole Union and Croatia.
