Human work is increasingly valued and employees have become the most important resource of every company. Therefore, large corporations constantly invest in improving working conditions and employee satisfaction. In order for companies to retain the highest quality workforce and ensure the constant satisfaction of their employees, reward systems are formed as an additional incentive. Along with salary, awards serve as the main motivator of employees, which leads to better functioning of the company itself, achieving a competitive advantage and ultimately achieving higher profits. Fair rewards and pay improve business processes and company performance in the long term and attract quality workforce to invest even more effort in doing the job. In the theoretical background of this thesis, the importance and goals of human resources, their significance for employees and organizations are explained in more detail. The types of compensation that companies provide to their employees are described, and the determination of the fixed and variable part of the salary is explained. In the empirical part of the thesis, research was conducted on rewards and salaries. Since nowadays more and more emphasis is placed on the quality development of the reward system in organizations, which affects overall job satisfaction, the research wanted to examine the attitudes of respondents when it comes to salaries and the reward system at their workplace. 130 employed respondents from the area of Zagreb participated in the anonymous survey.
