When determining the creditworthiness of trading companies, institutions primarily specialized in credit assessment face numerous challenges. In this regard, the reliability of the financial data of the analyzed companies is of paramount importance. Financial statements serve as the foundation for conducting high-quality, structured, and clear financial analysis and determining the credit rating of companies within business banks. Various methods are employed in assessing the creditworthiness of trading companies to gain a more insightful view into the overall operations and stability of the analyzed firms. In the context of this study, significant Croatian pharmaceutical companies, Pliva Hrvatska d.o.o. and Jadran-galenski laboratorij d.d., were analyzed using the following methods: vertical and horizontal analysis of the balance sheet and income statement, as well as the calculation of financial indicators that relate the observed variables, forming the fundamental basis for the analysis and research into the performance of the observed business entities. Additionally, the Zeta score model, as one of the multivariate models for assessing the creditworthiness of trading companies and one of the most commonly used models, was employed. In addition to the mentioned approach to analysis, theoretical framework of the Beaver model for credit assessment was presented. Company data were observed over a four-year period to more precisely evaluate the stability and performance of their operations. The results of the analysis indicate that both companies operate successfully. However, Pliva Hrvatska d.o.o. and two of its largest competitors (Belupo d.d. and Fidifarm d.o.o.) achieve slightly better financial results compared to the other observed company, Jadrangalenski laboratorij d.d. This suggests that there is space for improvement in the financial performance of Jadran-galenski laboratorij d.d.
