Abstract | In time of dynamic changes of the market, leadership has an important role in the business environment. As one of the management functions, leadership can be defined as an ability of influencing others to work enthusiastically towards completing the common goals. Leadership shows a new direction where change, risk, vision, creativity and challenge become the roots of everyday working style. Management is a base for a successful leadership. Likewise, management skills can be a base for leader to improve his leadership. According to Katz, there are three essential managerial skills: technical, human and conceptual skills. Characteristics of a successful leader are developed through education and experience. One can be an excellent manager without being a leader, but one cannot be a great leader without becoming a good manager. A person, who wants to become a great leader, has to be aware of the importance of managerial skills. Leaders are people, who firstly manage, but they have set an objective to motivate and inspire their followers for completing the certain tasks. The aim behind these activities is to increase the efficiency, productivity and overall satisfaction at work. The skills required to be a good leader should not be underestimated. For example, leader’s conceptual skills for setting a vision, human skills for motivating and working with people and technical skills which show his proficiency. Just how much it takes to be a good leader can be explained by the fact that almost all the successful directors are seen like leaders more than managers and that is why a role of leadership is not about personality, it is about practicing and improving their skills. |
