This bachelor thesis provides the overview of the most recent technology in the network industry called 5G. It reviews 5G by explaining its core functions, comparing it to the previous generation of broadband connection 4G, estimating the positive and negative sides of 5G, and by providing an insight to the potential business and economic applications of such technology. This is constructed in way to provide a broader picture of 5G, together with the conclusion on whether its implementation is desired and if so, how it will contribute to the world. 5G is another right step in the direction of technological development. Positive sides of 5G could be increased speed of data transfer together with smarter and inter-connected future. This could potentially fuel certain parts of economy and provide further industrial progress in industries such as autonomous vehicle industry, entertainment industry, Massive Internet of Things, smart cities etc. There are also some negative sides to 5G which include lack of performance in some areas (speed in certain conditions, coverage, availability), price of usage, potential health risks. Its improved and health-safe version has a potential to greatly contribute to the modern world, the only factor that still remains uncertain is how much time will be needed for 5G mobile network to achieve its optimal, safe and secure performance.
