As the experience of other crises in the past (eg caused by terrorist attacks or natural disasters) shows, tourists may react differently to security measures in tourism infrastructure, and the tourism sector can recover and continue its activities in the new, changed reality fairly quickly. the result is, among other things, a high level of competitiveness of companies operating in this market. The objectives of the research are to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the most important determinants of Croatian tourism, the number of arrivals, the number of overnight stays, the structure of guests that was most prevalent in domestic tourism before and during the pandemic. Also, the aim is to analyze the impact of the pandemic on the choice of accommodation in tourist facilities for domestic and foreign guests. The number of arrivals in 2020 greatly decreased compared to 2019, by as much as 68%, while the number of overnight stays fell by 58%. In 2021, when the measures related to the pandemic have eased, we see a 92% increase in arrivals compared to 2020, as well as a 78% increase in the number of overnight stays. Comparing the year 2021 with the record year 2019, we still see a 38% drop in the number of arrivals and a 25% drop in the number of overnight stays. Comparison of the first seven months of 2022 with the same period in 2021 shows a 62% increase in the number of arrivals and a growth of 47% in the number of overnight stays. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected tourism in 2020, but also in 2021, when the measures have eased. The recovery is already visible in the first seven months of 2022, with an even greater number of tourist arrivals and overnight stays expected in the coming years.
