The EU shows one of the most advanced examples of how unity aids progress. The European business environment provides all the tools for successful business-making in the EU and an encouraging baseline for international expansion. However, there are still obstacles to progress that EU nations face and one of them is corruption. Corruption is disruptive on the national and EU level, making citizens uneasy and distrusting their government. According to a Eurobarometer poll by the European Commission, 68% of EU respondents believe that corruption is still widespread in their own nation. In this thesis a regression analysis was made between the perception of corruption index (CPI) and the ease of doing business index (EODB), in order to establish if there is a connection and which parts of the many parameters of the EODB index create distrust with the citizens. The results show that the EODB parameters Global Rank, Dealing with construction permits, Registering property, Getting credit, Enforcing contracts, and Resolving insolvency can be directly linked with CPI. In the past the EU showed little resolve when dealing with the problem of corruption since it was not the most concerning issue, however, recently the EU has put out stronger measures and more rigorous actions in Member States to help fight the problem on a national level and regain the trust of the citizens.
