With the formation of the society, the market gradually began to develop as a place of exchange of goods and services. The market as such, over time, split into two differently organized forms, perfect competition and imperfect competition. Each such form contains special characteristics of the way of doing business that make it stand out. Monopoly represents the ultimate form of imperfect competition, given that the monopolist is the only competitor on the market with his products or services. Given the absence of competition, monopolists are creators of the prices of their products and services according to their own tendencies. During the formation of prices and offers, the main goal is to achieve maximum profit. The key indicators of such success are seen through the average and marginal revenue, and the policy that the monopolist uses most in practice in order to achieve the stated maximum profit is price discrimination. With this kind of price discrimination, the monopolist sets a different price for different groups of consumers with the aim of taking as much consumer surplus as possible. In the practical part of the paper, the presentation of monopoly follows the example of ŠRC Sisak, which is the only business entity in the city as a provider of sports and recreational services. Various practical examples of the use of price discrimination within the business of the sports center will support the theoretical facts related to topic of the paper.
