The idea about the existence of shared currency originates from the idea of a single currency that will grant the free movement of goods, people, services and capital and thus achieve greater connectivity between the member states of the Union. The convergence criteria, better known as the Maastricht criteria, are the criteria that a member state of the European Union must meet in order to introduce euro as its official currency. The stated criteria are price stability, stability of long-term interest rates, exchange rate stability and government budgetary position, government budget balance and the ratio of public debt to GDP. Achieving the criteria for entry into the eurozone aims to ensure the country's readiness and ability to integrate into the European Monetary Union and its regime. Countries that are in the process of meeting the criteria, encounter obstacles in the fiscal and legal system, most often they have problems with the criteria of public finances, while they easily meet the criteria of inflation and long-term interest rates. All economic policy measures implemented by Croatia and other potential eurozone member states with the aim of meeting the convergence criteria must be implemented independently of the process of the introduction of the euro in order to increase the economy's resilience to crises. Croatia’s entry into the eurozone can be evaluated with a positive rating. All criteria were successfully met except for the criterion of share of public debt in GDP, which is expected to be met in the future. The introduction of the euro is a correct decision that will bring many benefits to the economy. The possible problem is the introduction of euro in the time of a global crisis, the sudden growth of inflation and the actualization of the question of the sustainability of the euro in the future.
