Abstract (english) Women's entrepreneurship in the world and in the European Union is of increasing importance, given that an increasing number of women decide to engage in entrepreneurial activity. Nevertheless, in relation to men, women are still significantly subordinated in the world of entrepreneurship and management, both in terms of representation and salaries and opportunities for starting and growing a business. The purpose of this paper was to point out trends in the development of female entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia and the European Union, and to analyze the current situation and perspective. Statistical data for the Republic of Croatia bear witness to an increase in the number of women in entrepreneurship and a slight decrease in the ratio of male entrepreneurs compared to female entrepreneurs. Among the member states of the European Union, there are significant differences in terms of women's entrepreneurial activity, motives for entering into entrepreneurship, women's salaries compared to men, etc. The European Union encourages female entrepreneurship in various ways, but member states have freedom in shaping policies to encourage women's entrepreneurship. In addition to the usual obstacles and challenges that women encounter in starting and running businesses, such as difficult access to financing, balancing private and professional life, lack of networking, mentoring, and role models, one of the main issues identified is the absence of systematic monitoring of women's entrepreneurship at the European Union level. This makes it difficult to assess the current situation, which in turn represents the basis for further improvements and fulfilling the potential of women's entrepreneurship. If these problems and challenges were eliminated, female entrepreneurship has a very promising development perspective in the future, which is important as it impacts both economic and social progress.
