The aim of the paper is to investigate how the entry of the Republic of Croatia into the Eurozone affects the financial assets of banks. The paper will theoretically explain the process of the introduction of the euro by the Republic of Croatia through the presentation of convergence criteria, the process of the introduction of the euro itself and its complexity, and will show what costs and benefits the introduction of the euro brings. Then we will talk about the consequences, i.e. what the changeover to the euro brings to financial assets, primarily loans, deposits and securities as key components of the balance sheet structure of every bank. The impact on loans will be explained, including different types of loans, the conversion from kuna to euros and the disadvantage of the loans themselves when they converge to the euro. Furthermore, the effects of the introduction of the euro on deposits will be explained, with an emphasis on different types of deposits and the process of deposit convergence. Finally, the effects of the introduction of the euro on securities will be explored, similar to the discussion on loans and deposits. This will include an examination of different types of securities, with a particular emphasis on stocks and bonds as the most well-known and common securities in bank portfolios, and how the convergence of the euro affects them. For the purpose of the work to be complete and concretely present effects mentioned above, the paper will analyze two banks, Zagrebačka and Croatian Postal Bank as one of the largest banks in Croatia. The analysis will be carried out by showing financial assets and the state of financial assets before and after the introduction of the euro. The first quarter of 2022. and 2023. will be taken as reference periods for the analysis, and the changes, impact and effects on the financial assets of these banks will be observed.
