This graduate thesis is based on researching consumer awareness of their rights when purchasing electronic devices and analyzes how consumer policy affects the protection of these rights. Despite legal protection, the question is how consumers perceive this protection and how aware they are of their rights. The market for electronic devices presents a range of challenges related to consumer rights, including laws, warranty periods, and complaints. Given the rapid technological advancement, consumers often encounter planned obsolescence of products, which encourages them to replace them earlier. By implementing planned obsolescence policies, businesses make their products less durable and imply to consumers the need for earlier replacement, ultimately increasing demand for business entities. The new EU Directive on the right to repair products aims to facilitate repairs and extend the lifespan of devices. Analyzing the impact of consumer policy on the protection of consumer rights when purchasing electronic devices in Croatia provides a clearer picture of the extent to which citizens of the Republic of Croatia are familiar with their rights. Through collaboration between consumers, retailers, and regulatory bodies, the electronic device market can become fairer and more beneficial for all parties involved.
