Sustainable (ESG) investments are not a new concept of investing, however they represent a growing form of investing, for which there is a growing intention to become a prevailing way of investing. Sustainability in the economy is becoming a key determinant of further growth and development and its implementation is supported by more and more international organizations and governments. Considering the support of state and international organizations and requests of regulators, companies have a challenge of incorporating sustainable (ESG) factors in their development strategies and investments. As companies themselves, banks actually have a double role in support of sustainability. Firstly, they need to adjust their business with sustainable (ESG) factors. Their secondary role is of indirect character. Banks, as one of the most significant financial intermediaries, have a key role in adequate directing of funds in sustainable (ESG) projects. The purpose of this thesis is to signify the important role of banks in support of sustainability as a currently most important strategy of economic development. Analysis of sustainable (ESG) investments market was conducted with regards of role of banks on that market and analysis of Croatian sustainable investments market.
