Modern maritime freight transport is the backbone of maintaining the global economy and trade and is a growing segment of transport. Without the transportation of goods by sea, it is difficult to successfully maintain a modern globalized economy in which all parts of the world participate equally in the exchange of goods. In addition, the transport of dangerous goods plays an important role, which creates additional risks for the safety of the crew, the vessel and the environment. Nowadays, people are increasingly aware of the impact of hazardous and harmful substances on the environment and the potential negative consequences for water safety, biodiversity, ecosystem services, human health and well-being. All that cargo that can cause one of the aforementioned damages can be called dangerous cargo, and various laws, regulations and international agreements define dangerous cargo according to their natural state and properties, and represent a danger to public safety. Transportation of dangerous goods is by its very nature the second largest "dangerous industry" after the nuclear industry. The basic requirement for the safe transport of dangerous goods by sea is to familiarize all participants in the transport process with the types, properties, dangers and risks that may appear during transport, as well as with the basic principles and ways of preventing dangers. Therefore, the loading, unloading and transportation of dangerous goods by ships are subject to the provisions of international laws and regulations on the method of transporting dangerous goods by sea. By informing the crew about the characteristics of the dangerous goods being transported, regularly practicing the procedures in the event of an accident and complying with the provisions of the IMDG Code, the risk of accidents can be minimized and the safety of navigation can be improved.
