This paper analyses the connection between demographic growth and climate change. Considering the different causes of climate change, it is a highly complex topic. Nonetheless, the positive correlation of demographic growth and climate change has been determined. The more people there are on earth, the more resources are needed to carry out daily life, the higher the greenhouse gas emissions and the greater the degradation of the environment. The consequence of all this is climate change. Numerous arguments have been found in scientific literature, and in statistical data collected for the purpose of this thesis, that link global population growth to environmental degradation and climate change. Many international institutions, including the United Nations (UN), have recognized this issue. The UN has incorporated the fight against climate change into its Agenda 2030. In its reports, the UN also mentions the importance of limiting demographic growth, which can primarily be achieved by reducing fertility in less developed countries. This will slow down further increases in the ecological footprint and, in combination with other measures and instruments, contribute to achieving sustainable development. Current demographic trends and the impact of population on the environment underscore the need for urgent identification of suitable solutions for the well-being of both present and future generations.
