The subject of this paper is simulation games in sports. Given that computer games are often a significant, interesting and compelling domain of software applications for innovative research in software engineering techniques and technologies, the aim of the paper is to present and analyze their development. Simulation football involves many aspects of computer science, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, distributed management systems, multi-agent systems, task scheduling, and planning. The aim is also to showcase and analyze the software of two selected competitive football simulation game franchises using practical examples. For analysis, EA Sports FIFA and eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer were chosen as the two most popular football video game franchises, as well as to compare marketing activities and analyze data from a selected social network. The analysis of the software from the selected companies indicates that they are technologically advanced software solutions based on the latest technologies. Comparative marketing analysis shows that both games use marketing to emphasize their uniqueness and quality, and the analysis of Twitter (X) data indicates a prevailing positive sentiment towards both games.
