Business processes are increasingly taking the place in modern business architecture. Cooperation between process management and construction of large number of process connections, which can be upgraded to a higher level, are important source of competitive advantage. In accordance with the process maturing and growing popularity of BPM paradigm the concept of process maturity was created. It became extremely important because it confirmed that organization adopted a process approach. The concept of business process management or widely accepted process orientation comes from understanding that the processes have a lifecycle or development level that can be clearly defined, managed, measured and controlled in time. Due to the popularity of the concept of process maturity, many models of process maturity were developed. The experts who are interested in assessment of process orientation in organization need to assess process maturity model. Research of maturity model is one of the subjects of this paper. This paper will attempt to describe the concept of process maturity, maturity models of processoriented organization, and display key turning points in development of process maturity. All this was done according to current literature in the field of business process management in the country and in the world. The empirical part includes the research of evaluation of process maturity in one Croatian trade company. This will try to give insight into state of maturity of business processes within this firm, which can, in some way, provide the level of process maturity in Croatian companies.
