Due to an increase in public interest on the issue of medical waste management, observed both locally and globally, a lot of effort has been directed towards its proper and safe disposal. Medical waste is the waste generated from health services, and besides being nonhazardous, it can be hazardous. Medical waste also includes pharmaceutical waste that falls into the category of hazardous medical waste. Pharmaceutical waste is waste generated in the manufacture and marketing of medicines and medical devices as well as equipment used when handling it. Medical institutions generate large amounts of different types of waste, including the "Health" pharmacy in this case, which, if not managed properly, can lead to pollution and other environmental hazards, further increasing potential health risk for medical care providers, as well as public health. According to the Principle Medical Waste Management NN 72/207 is defined as waste generated in health services, protection and preservation of human and / or animal health; waste generated in research activities as well as waste generated when providing different services that come into contact with blood and / or the secretions of humans and / or animals. In the Republic of Croatia, medical waste is administered according to special regulations for producers, processors and carriers. Medical waste intended for export is in notification procedure. The generating of medical waste, according to ROO and AZO, is growing slightly, while waste management in RH is behind EU.
