We have reached a critical point in our development. The new and emerging branch of impact investing has started to make waves in the mainstream economic community. Many argue that it will be a focal point in reaching integrated sustainability. Although impact investing can not replace the core of the public sector, the idea of profit seeking investments that will generate social and environmental returns is appealing even to mainstream investors. Through innovation of the sector and new alternatives, new types of bonds and securities have emerged which aim to efficiently share private and public capital to engage solving social and economic issues at a global, governmental or local stage. For this to be possible, a proper framework has to be set for all the participants to have a clear understanding of the market. Proper metrics for this type of investing are non existent, which is why there is a common concern of how social impact investments are measured. However, it presents a great opportunity as the industry will mature, understanding of them will expand, offering will be more specialised and the professionals of the industry will be more skilled.
