Abstract
Inflation has an important role in the contemporary economy as an indicator of monetary stability. Each country has its own regulatory body called the central bank. One of the main tasks of the central bank is to keep inflation stable and around a certain percentage level. Inflation is essentially a stabilizing tool for an economy. Conditions on financial markets and good markets are constantly changing, and monetary policy is accordingly modified and implemented. Inflation can be measured using different methods. However, mostly used are the Consumer Price Index method and the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices method. The purpose of this paper is to define the concept of inflation, the causes of inflation, the types of inflation, its measurement methods, and to analyze and compare inflation and measurement methods in the European Union and the United States. Data analyzed in this paper are secondary source data obtained from scientific and professional literature.
Abstract (english)
Inflacija, kao pokazatelj stabilnosti monetarne politike, ima bitnu ulogu u suvremenoj ekonomiji. Svaka država ima središnju banku koja je institucionalno neovisna u ostvarivanju glavnog cilja održavanja stabilnosti cijena. Uvjeti na financijskom tržištu i tržištu dobara se konstantno mijenjaju, a monetarna politika se sukladno mjenja i implementira. Inflacija se može mjeriti raznim metodama, a najčešće korištene metode su indeks potrošačkih cijena i harmonizirani indeks potrošačkih cijena Cilj ovog rada je definirati inflaciju, identificirati razloge zbog kojih dolazi do promjena u kretanju inflacije, definirati tipove inflacije, metode mjerenja te provesti komparativnu analizu inflacije i metode mjerenja u Europskoj Uniji i Sjedinjenim američkim državama. Pri izradi ovog rada korišteni su sekundarni podaci u vidu stručne i znanstvene literature.
