Abstract
As a result of rapid technological advancements in the last few decades, new digital threats arose. The rise of social media networks in the late 1990s, and the advancement of the aforementioned networks brought on major changes in communication between individuals as well as groups that share interest, preferences and needs. While social media platforms brought on major advantages in how we interact with each other, various challenges also arose in terms of the protection of individuals’ personal information. The most commonly used social media platform in the world, Facebook, from its early years has been an evolutionary transformation of the lives of individuals and their interaction with others.. However, since its foundation, the company has been exposed to various considerable breaches that affected data of millions of its users. However, even with the vulnerabilities brought on by not only hackers, but also third-party applications partnered with Facebook Inc., the company has stayed on top of its industry and is attracting new users every day.
