Abstract
Due to the internet's rapid expansion and the growing flow of information over the past ten years, systems that attempt to separate valuable from unhelpful information for users have been developed. If this development has benefitted society, then information-filtering systems have made it easier to access personal data, enabling computers and cellphones to recognize their users by giving them the ability to adjust their material to people' requirements. To facilitate more effective and natural communication between people and computers, the discipline of affective computing tries to harness human emotions as a way to convey preferences to machines. This study evaluates affective computing systems that can recognize bodily movements, voice, facial emotions, and physiological data in order to assess which approach has the best chance of enhancing human-computer interaction. The boundaries of affective computing systems are set by technical concerns, particularly privacy concerns, as emotional machines would be able to gather far more data about their users than current-generation computers.
