Positive parenting promotes positive development of the child, and implies respect and promotion of child's rights within the family. The parental role has always been considered as a responsible one, and especially nowadays when more and more importance is given to positive parenting and the child's well being. Therefore, the contemporary professional literature related to child rearing and parenting indicates the importance of positive parenting, well timed encouragement of children by parents, as well as support programs for parents led by experts. Parent support programs aim to strengthen parenting competencies. Parents' inner strengths include parental knowledge and skills for caring for a child, communication skills, problem solving skills, and coping with stress. Effective parenting programs contribute to the well being of children, improve family relationships and, in general, contribute to the community. The aim of this thesis is to present the implemented program which sought to empower participants in the program entitled "Awareness, needs, emotions and boundaries." The program is based on the theoretical concepts of "conscious parenting" and "positive parenting". The program was attended by eight parents who have children with developmental disabilities. The results of the evaluation indicate that the program has achieved its main goal, i.e. that parents are empowered after the program and that their parenting competencies are of better quality, which is key to achieving positive parenting and positive developmental outcomes of children.
