A voice disorder can occur in any stage of a persons life, that also includes childhood. It is considered a disorder for which the characteristics of volume, pitch and/or quality of voice don't correspond with the age, sex, culture and/or geographical location of the person. Given that it is very important for the quality of a child's life to recognize a voice disorder as early as possible and the pediatrician's role in its recognition is indispensable. The aim of this research is to examine the awareness of pediatricians about the reasons for referring children to vocal therapy, to examine how confident they feel in their knowledge, whether the years of work experience affect the same, and to find out their opinion and knowledge about voice disorders. 69 pediatricians from Croatia participated in the research, and the data was collected using an online questionnaire constructed for the purpose of this research. The data obtained from the questionnaire shows that pediatricians can almost always accurately determine the symptoms, recognize the causes and refer children for further assessment, but they do not feel confident in their knowledge regarding voice disorders and are not satisfied with the knowledge gained at university, as well as the representation of the topic in the available literature. The results of the conducted tests indicate that there is no statistical significance between years of service, as well as additional training and the tendency to refer children for further assessment. Also, the obtained results indicate that pediatricians who work in private practices refer children for evaluation more often than pediatricians who work in hospitals and health centers. The obtained results should be interpreted with caution due to the small sample of respondents.
