Since the Republic of Croatia is among the oldest countries in the world in terms of population, and the population aging trend is increasing, it is expected that the number of people with various diseases will also increase, including changes and/or deterioration of the voice as part of the normal aging process. The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of health and demographic factors on the self-assessment of voice difficulties among third age people through a voice self-assessment questionnaire. For the purposes of this research, a questionnaire was created for examining voice self-assessment among third age people, based on the questionnaire created by Pernambuco et al. (2016). Participants were 72 people who live in nursing homes and 43 people who live in their own home. Statistical analysis revealed that there is no statistically significant difference between the participants who live in nursing home and those who live in their own home with regard to the results of the voice self-assessment questionnaire, while examining the difference in the results of the voice self-assessment questionnaire between third age people who experienced voice difficulties and those who did not, a statistically significant difference was found. Also, there is no statistically significant association between smoking/alcohol consumption and the results of the voice self-assessment questionnaire. Taking into account the results, it is necessary to create a new instrument designed specifically for the group of people of the third age as a critical group in order to examine the prevalence of voice disorders and related factors, and accordingly act in a timely manner with the aim of ensuring optimal quality of life.
