Abstract
Kognitivno starenje smatra se prirodnim procesom koji se odvija godinama i proizvodi gubitak u učinkovitosti izvedbe različitih operacija uz zadržavanje sadržaja ili znanja. Fluidna inteligencija se gubi, a kristalizirana inteligencija se održava. Do promjena dolazi u različitim kognitivnim vještinama, ponajviše pažnji i radnom pamćenju, što znatno utječe na učinkovitost komunikacije i društvenih odnosa. Tijekom prvih godina života jezični razvoj karakterizira povećanje komunikacijskih i jezičnih sposobnosti, a u starijoj dobi dolazi do povećanja semantičkog znanja, iako se istodobno pojavljuju teškoće u leksičkom pristupu, sintaktičkoj obradi i organizaciji govora, što nedvojbeno ima posljedice na kvalitetu života starijih odraslih osoba. Kognitivne, motoričke i socijalne promjene koje se javljaju prirodnim starenjem otežavaju komunikaciju i jezik te posljedično smanjuju kvalitetu života. Ovaj pregledni rad prikazuje osnovne spoznaje o odnosu procesa kognitivnog starenja s jezičnim vještinama. U radu su detaljnije opisane promjene u jezičnoj proizvodnji i jezičnom razumijevanju koje prate starenje te kako one utječu na komunikacijske sposobnosti starijih osoba.
Abstract (english)
Cognitive aging is considered a natural process that takes place over the years and produces a loss in the efficiency of performing various operations while retaining content or knowledge. Fluid intelligence is lost, and crystallized intelligence is maintained. Changes occur in various cognitive skills, in attention and working memory, which significantly affect the effectiveness of communication and social relations. During the first years of life, language development is characterized by an increase in communication and linguistic abilities, in old age there is an increase in semantic knowledge, although, at the same time difficulties in lexical access, syntactic processing, and speech organization appear, which undoubtedly has consequences for the quality of life of older adults. Cognitive, motor, and social changes that occur with natural aging make communication and language difficult and consequently reduce the quality of life. This review paper shows the basic knowledge about the relationship between the process of cognitive aging and language skills. The paper describes in more detail the changes in language production and language comprehension that accompany aging and how they affect the communication skills of the elderly.
