"Informiranost o rizicima nastanka oštećenja sluha i zaštiti sluha" ovisno o dobi sudionika i
programa i programa podizanja svijesti o rizicima nastanka oštećenja sluha i važnosti zaštite
sluha mladih glazbenika. |
Abstract (english) | Acquired hearing loss is one of the most common chronic conditions in adults and elderly, which occurs as a result of various conditions, with the leading causes being aging (presbycusis) and exposure to noise. Noise-induced hearing loss involves the damage to sensitive structures within the inner ear that respond to stimuli caused by exposure to loud sound, resulting in sensorineural type of hearing loss with a characteristic shift in hearing threshold at frequencies between 3000 Hz and 6000 Hz. Long-term exposure to high levels of loud music, as well as industrial noise, can lead to the development of acquired hearing damage, making musicians a high-risk group for music-induced hearing loss. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine musicians' awareness of hearing protection methods and the risks associated with hearing loss.
This was done in order to gain insight into their awareness of the impact of various risk factors
on hearing loss as well as their perception of the importance of using hearing protection. As
there is no existing questionnaire in the Republic of Croatia for assessing musicians' awareness,
a questionnaire consisting of a total of 32 questions was created for the purpose of this research.
It was administered to 102 musicians aged between 18 and 60 years. Given the complexity and
depth of the questionnaire, in this research the emphasis was placed on the overall results of
participants in the sub-questionnaire 'Awareness of the Risks of Hearing Damage and Hearing
Protection,' depending on the participants' age and use of hearing protection. Descriptive
analysis results showed a high level of awareness among musicians regarding noise and loud
music as risks for hearing damage, as well as knowledge about different forms of hearing
protection, methods of use, and the positive impact of hearing protection. On the other hand, a
reduced level of awareness about the actual impact of noise on hearing and consequently, the
importance of using hearing protection, was observed. In addition, through non-parametric
statistical methods, a significant, low positive correlation between age and musicians' overall
awareness was demonstrated. This corresponds to recent research data in the Republic of
Croatia, indicating a lack of information about hearing damage among young individuals.
Within the scope of this research, a concerning fact was established that despite the high overall
level of awareness among musicians about the risks associated with hearing damage and various
methods of hearing protection, less than one-third of the participants use hearing protection. In
conclusion, significant differences in awareness about noise and loud music as risks for hearing
damage, the importance of using hearing protection, and the impact of hearing damage on
quality of life were found between musicians who use hearing protection and those who do not.
The results obtained in this study underscore the need for the development of preventive
programs and awareness-raising programs regarding the risks of hearing damage and the
importance of hearing protection, especially for young musicians. |
