Motor behavior in the first months of a child's life is one of the clearest indicators of their development. It is characterized by the development of infantile automatisms such as orofacial, primitive extensor reflexes, reflexes of primitive grasping of the hand and foot, and reflexes of mass movements. In the infancy period, goal-directed voluntary movements of the upper and lower extremities emerge, infants develop the ability to crawl, gradually mastering motor skills, and progress to standing upright. During the first year of life, they acquire the ability to manipulate objects and move around the room. Instruments for assessing early motor development enable the evaluation of motor progress and identification of potential deviations in the earliest stages of life. Early assessment of children and its high predictive value facilitate timely inclusion of children with detected risk symptoms into appropriate early intervention programs. This study will provide an overview of seven instruments for assessing early motor development: Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE), Toddler and Infant Motor Evaluation (TIME), Test of Infant Motor Performance (TIMP), Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS), Peabody Developmental Motor Scale (PDMS-2), Infant Motor Profile (IMP), Neurological, Sensory, Motor, Developmental Assessment (NSMDA). The results of these assessments are used to gain a deeper understanding of an infant's motor abilities and serve as a foundation for planning further intervention if needed.
