Abstract Temeljni cilj diplomskog rada jest dobiti uvid u percepciju obiteljske otpornosti od strane adolescenata (srednjoškolaca grada ZG).
Abstract (english) The main aim of this paper is to gain insight into the perception of family resilience by adolescents (high school students in the City of Zagreb). The specific objectives are related to exploring the relationship between the perception of family resilience and the particular characteristics of participants such as school success and their family structure.
The survey was conducted during April 2017 on a sample of 220 students in two vocational high schools and one gymnasium in the city of Zagreb. The sample consisted of 90 students from Graphic School for Media production and Design, 41 students from the Veterinary High School and 89 students from the First Gymnasium. The survey was conducted in the framework of the pilot project "The positive development of adolescents from City of Zagreb: state of the art" in the Department of Behavioural Disorders, on the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Zagreb. For the purposes of this project, an instrument was developed that consists of several different scales and of additional questions which collected socio-demographic data on research participants. For purposes of this study, in order to gain the information needed to meet the goal and in order to answer to the research questions, out of whole instrument, these were taken into account: (1) questionnaire on demographic data and (2) Scale of family resilience (modifved Sixbey, 2005). The paper-pencil method was used in the research, participation in the survey was anonymous and in line with current ethical standards widely applied in the field.
The results showed that participants express "relatively high" the presence of family resilience in the two observed subscale - (1) Family communication and problem solving and (3) Family organization, with results higher than the mathematical average. At the subscale (2) called Family belief system, the results showed the presence of family resilience, but the result is average and not higher than the mathematical average. Furthermore, as far as school success is concerned, the obtained results show that there is a correlation between family resilience
and the subjective perception of their own school success in the field of participation in extracurricular activities (in all three sub-scale of family resilience and on the overall result of a family resilience) and partly in relation with the teachers at school (on the dimension of the family belief system and on the overall result of family resilience), while there is no correlation between family resilience to performing school tasks and relationships with peers.
As for the connection between the perception of family resilience and number of siblings with which participants live, the results of the research did not confirm the correlation between family communication and problem solving, family organization and overall results on the scale of family resilience with the number of brothers and sisters with whom the participants live. On the other hand, the family belief system was positively associated with the number of brothers and sisters (r=0.163, p=0.018). By studying the structure of the family, the survey results showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the perception of family resilience in relation to the structure of the family in terms of living with both or one/none parent.
