Abstract (english) Seifert (1995, according to Bratković, 2002) defined six specific, interdependent dimensions of the quality of life in persons with intellectual disabilities, one of which relates to participation in general living through activities and social contacts outside the home, including work and leisure. Leisure is the possibility of free inclusion in intrinsically meaningful activities by their own choice (Rogers et al., 1998). In order for all adults, including those with intellectual disabilities, to engage satisfactorily in leisure time activities, they need to develop self-determination skills, choice and decision-making skills. Self-determination includes the possibility of choice, personal control and self-management in everyday life, and determines the future of a person (Scott et al., 2013) in all areas of life and also in the sphere of leisure, which greatly influences the quality of life of an individual. Starting from these findings, the aim of this paper was to examine how adults with intellectual disabilities spend their free time, which possibility of choice and decision making they have and how their leisure time activities affect their quality of life as a whole. Eight people with intellectual disabilities participated in the study, four of which were male and four female, aged between 26 and 61. They are beneficiaries of the program of Assisted Living of the Rehabilitation Center Zagreb. For the purpose of conducting the research, a semi-structured interview was created, as well as an agreement between the researchers and the participants of the research, which confirms the voluntary consent of persons with intellectual disabilities. The research included qualitative methods and techniques of empirical material description. The research results provide insight into the current state of how adults with intellectual disabilities spend their leisure time, which choice and decision-making possibilities they have and how leisure activities affect their quality of life as a whole. The collected data and the resulting conclusions can be an encouragement and guidance to experts of different profiles, competent institutions and bodies and non-governmental organizations to make more active contributions and take the necessary measures to increase the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in various leisure activities in the community according to their personal preferences and to improve their quality of life.
