People whose work depends on their voice are vocal professionals. They use voice as the primary means of their professional activity. A large group of vocal professionals are not familiar with the proper vocal hygiene and they are just part of a risk group for the development of voice disorders. Speech pathologists also belong to a group of vocal professionals. In addition to their voice as a basic means of doing work, they are also those who teach proper vocal hygiene and through therapy and counseling help other people to preserve and improve the voice quality. Vocal professionals such as teachers and professors are unfortunately not sufficiently educated about voice problems that may arise during their professional activities because their formal education does not include education about proper care and attention to voice. The appearance of voice problems with future teachers is present at the beginning of their formal education. By contrast, future speech pathologists have already got the first insight into the voice and importance of voice concern in the first year of their study. The aim of this longitudinal study is to determine the acoustic parameters of the voice, to detect the differences in acoustic parameters at the beginning of the study and at the end of a study with the future speech pathologists and to detect changes in student habits (H2). Also, the correlation between acoustic characteristics of voice and consuming beverages, food and tobacco was tested (H3). The test material is a questionnaire about lifestyle habits that affect the voice and as a measuring instrument the MDVP computer program. Statistically significant differences exist on the variables SHIM, NHR, VTI and SPI. Their values are worse on second measurement and indicate a worse voice at the end of the study. The results of the variables of the questionnaire about the habits affecting the voice are statistically not significantly different. There is a statistically significant positive correlation in coffee consumption and acoustic variables NHR (relationship noise - harmonic) and VTI (voice turbulence index). More frequent coffee consumption increases the values of NHR and VTI variables resulting in lower quality of voice. The results of this work confirmed that speech education affects consumption of food and beverages (no growth is present). However, despite the education, the results of the acoustic parameters are worse. This work should therefore serve future speech pathologists for raising awareness of its voice qualities and keeping its voice as a basic tool.
