Almost every child during the early development spends most of its time playing. Game represents physical and emotional joy and satisfaction for the child. Many reseraches highlight that children develop in social, cognitive and emotional aspect right through the game. At the time their physical growth and maturation reach the level which lets them take and manipulate objects, children start actively play with various objects from their environment. According Piaget, there are 4 stages of cognitive development of which most of time children spend in preoperational stage that lasts from 2nd to 7th year of life and at which evolves symbolic thinking; the stage at which certain meanings are represented by words and objects. The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics of interests (width and intensity) and free play (content- type of play: functional and symbolic use of objects and the frequency of use of particular given object and also the degree in which child includes others in game) in cognitive normally developing preschool children. The assessment was carried out as a part of „Free play“ task in Module 2, ADOS-2- Autism diagnostic observation schedule (ADOS-2; Lord i sur., 2012.). This task was conducted on sample of 20 normally developing children aged 3-to-4. A protocol was designed to label characteristics of interests and play and the whole procedure was recorded with a video camera for more accurate coding under the prior approval of parents. Results have shown that children are engaged in functional game the most (65%), and less for almost half of it in symbolic (35%) and they use functional toys the most, for which they show intensive interest. They played with 8 toys on average and in this study only 7 children included the examiner into game.
